Class Description

Trane and American Standard Advanced Heat Pumps and Troubleshooting

This course is designed for service technicians that have a current working knowledge of basic heat pump operation. Topics covered are troubleshooting using both sequence of operation, and wiring diagrams. Building hands on skills with lab trainers and equipment. No basic heat pump operation will be covered.

** Variable speed heat pumps will NOT be covered ** No basic skills will be covered

Pre-Requisites: Trane and American Standard Heat Pumps

Course Objectives:

• Sequence of operation troubleshooting

• Defrost board and cycle troubleshooting

• Troubleshooting temperature sensors

• Troubleshooting low pressure and hgh-pressure switches

• Troubleshooting wiring diagrams

• Troubleshooting using pressure curves

Target Audience:

Intermediate and Advanced Service Technicians

For best results this class is designed for service technicians with a good understanding of heat pump operation. There will be no basic skills as part of this class.

Note: Minimum class size of 5 students – Maximum class size of 20 students, class may be rescheduled to a different date if a class minimum is not met.

Charles Wilkerson
Charles Wilkerson has been in the HVAC industry for 30 years. Starting out as a maintenance technician and working his way to lead technician. Charles found a passion in education and training for the HVAC industry where he became an instructor for a local community college. During that time Charles was able to build heating and cooling training programs from the ground up. He recognized the need for Training and Support in the Field. Following education, Charles became a General Manager of a small heating and cooling company where he was faced with the same training and support needs that most dealers face. Charles is committed to bringing education, training, and support to the next generation of service technicians through his employment with the O’Connor company.
Patrick Fetters
Patrick has been in the HVAC industry for 23 years as an installer and service technician in the residential and commercial sides. Patrick has his Master's mechanical license, NATE Certifications, and backup generator certifications. His area of expertise is troubleshooting and designing applications of HVAC equipment.
